Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Visit Location of Sea Flow Power Plant in Larantuka Strait Sunday, April 1, 2018

LARANTUKA - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Ignasius Jonan accompanied by Director General of Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE) Rida Mulyana visit the location of the Sea Flow Power Plant (PLTAL) development plan integrated with Pancasila-Palmerah Bridge in Larantuka Strait , East Flores, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Saturday (31/3).

The Consortium of the Netherlands, Tidal Bridge BV and PJB implement Joint Venture under the name of Tidal Bridge Indonesia, which together with local partners will build the Pancasila-Palmerah Bridge integrated with marine flow turbines in the Larantuka Strait, along approximately 810 meters which will connect Adonara Island and Flores Island.

In addition to generate electricity, the Minister of ESDM hopes that the bridge construction will make Adonara Island more developed just like Flores island.


"With the construction of this bridge it is expected that development in Adonara can take place quickly.This is all the direction of the President of the Republic of Indonesia if you can connect this can be built properly," said Jonan.


Jonan added that if accomplished, this Independent Power Producer (IPP) project marine-based could be the first and the largest in Indonesia. "This is the world's first and largest Marine Flow Power Plant if the generated electricity reaches 20 MW," added Jonan.


Regarding the time to start the construction of this bridge, Jonan said, is currently under study and is expected finalization will be completed as soon as possible so it can start working.


Director General of EBTKE, Rida Mulyana added, "The development of the Marine Flow Power Plant in the Larantuka Strait is a good idea because the area of ​​East Nusa Tenggara is one of the areas to be improved by the electrification ratio.


"As an archipelagic country, Indonesia has many straits that are sufficiently strong like in Larantuka Strait, from information which is the strongest in the world," Rida continued.


The development plan of Pancasila Palmerah Bridge integrated with turbine is a follow up of the series of working visit of Mr. President to Europe on April 22, 2016. At the event, signing Head of Agreement (HoA) on Building Bridges Equipped with Sea Current Turbine Power Plant in the District of East Flores Sea, investment cooperation between Ministry of  Public Works and People's Housing, Tidal Bridge BV, and NTT Provincial Government at the Indonesia - The Netherland Business Forum in Netherlands.


The Dutch consortium, Tidal Bridge, is interested in running the construction project of the Palmerah Pancasila Bridge which is integrated with marine flow turbines in the Larantuka Strait. The Ministry of  Public Works and People's Housing( PUPR) has completed the Pre- Feasibility Study (FS) Pancasila Palmerah Bridge Development which will be integrated with Marine Flow Power Plant  in 2017. The Pre-FS results state that the project is feasible to be implemented.


Tidal Bridge assumes that the velocity of the Larantuka Strait averages 3.5 m / s, the installed capacity of each turbine is 16 MW with an energy generated effectively of 6 MW. Assuming the installation of 5 turbines, the energy generated an average of 30 MW.


PT PLN with Tidal Bridge BV on February 22, 2018 has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on conducting feasibility studies and network impact studies in order to utilize the energy of this Sea Flow Plant. (Kay)
