Sunday September 2017

Sumbawa. SUMBAWA - In a series of working visits in Sumbawa region on Sunday (24/9), the Vice Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Arcandra Tahar, visited the location of the Sumbawa Gas Engine Power Plant (PLTMG) development project in Labuan Badas, Sumbawa Region , West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

With an additional 50 MW of Sumbawa PLTMG later, the power supply in Sumbawa will increase almost doubled. "And after this (PLTMG) builds up, we have a reserve margin that is far above other areas. If the electricity is often failure of electricity, we see if the installed capacity is bigger than the peak load, on the next future if this is already built the installed capacity is bigger than the peak load , more or less (reserve margin) 30 percent, "said Arcandra.

The 50 megawatt (MW) Sumbawa Power Plant (PLTMG) development is going into a 35,000 MW plant development program. The development process of PLTMG Sumbawa itself has been started since June 2017, and is targeted to be completed by the end of 2018.

"If you look at the progress now,  Insha Allah (if GOD allow) will be achieved, "gas for the PLTMG will be in the tender, still in the planning process, later (the process) is still long," said Arcandra.

This PLTMG will strengthen Sumbawa's electricity system and is an effort to accelerate the increase of electrification ratio, as well as economic growth of NTB. According to PLN, the power plant is estimated to be able to provide electricity up to 110 thousand families.

Sumbawa Island is still divided into two electrical systems, namely Bima System and Sumbawa System. The Bima system has a generating capacity of 50 MW with a peak load of 42 MW. Meanwhile, for Sumbawa System currently has an installed capacity of 56 MW with a peak load of 38.6 MW.

To note, the electrification ratio of NTB until July 2017 reached 81.14 percent, while the special on the island of Sumbawa has reached 85.3 percent. With the inclusion of PLTMG Sumbawa, it is expected that the electrification ratio in NTB can increase up to above 95 percent in 2019
