JAKARTA - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Ignasius Jonan said, until the third quarter of 2018 the national electrification ratio had reached 98%.

"98% of the people in the country currently enjoy electricity services. This exceeds the target set in the medium-term development plan (RPJM) that is actually a target of 97.5% electrification ratio at the end of 2018, next year the target is 99.9%, "Jonan said.

Although it has exceeded Jonan's target, there are still 2% remaining, equivalent to 5.2 million Indonesians who have not enjoyed electricity. For this reason, Jonan said that the utilization of new renewable energy would complement the electricity ratio in areas that are difficult to reach.

"5.2 million Indonesians who have not enjoyed lighting or electricity are very many, equivalent to the entire population of the State of Singapore, therefore I sincerely hope that next year all will be able to enjoy lighting and for isolated and difficult-to-reach areas we use new energy renewable, "Jonan said.

In addition to the availability of electricity, for the electricity sector, the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, has provided direction so that electricity prices can be reached by all people, not just the middle class. "The President's direction is to ensure that electricity can be reached by the community. Affordable people cannot be on the middle level but must be calculated from the layers of our brothers who are still disadvantaged so that they are still vulnerable to poverty," explained Jonan.

The Government continues to strive to electrify the entire territory of Indonesia so that all levels of society can enjoy electricity as a door of civilization and a form of equitable energy. The effort to realize the just energy continues to be carried out by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources for the sake of the affordability of energy sources in the community, both affordable in terms of access and from tariffs.

"We do not want human development in Indonesia in difficult and remote areas to be hampered and more and more left behind by the urban community who can already have internet access and can learn whenever the time is day or night," Jonan concluded. (k)
