Kadumbul Wind Power Plant (PLTB) 3 MW Will Be Built in East Sumba Wednesday, October 31, 2018

KUTA, BALI - A number of business entities are currently preparing New Energy and Renewable Energy (EBT) projects on Sumba Island, East Nusa Tenggara, in order to succeed the Sumba Island Development Program as   Renewable Energy Iconic Island (Sumba Iconic Island / SII).


This was stated by the Director General of New, Renewable and Energy Conservation (EBTKE), Rida Mulyana at the 13th Plenary Meeting of the SII Program which took place in Kuta, Bali on October 24-26 2018.

One of the renewable energy projects is currently being prepared by PT Hywind with a 3 Mega Watt (MW) Wind Power Plant  (PLTB) in Kadumbul, East Sumba.


In his presentation, the President Director of PT Hywind Chandra Soemitro revealed that currently Feasibility Studies and Grid Interconnection Studies had been completed for the construction of the PLTB. The PLTB is planned to use an on-grid scheme.


Subsequently, PT Hywind with PT PLN (Persero) in the NTT region will prepare the procurement process for the project. In addition to preparing procurement, PT Hywind has also conducted training and outreach with local residents.

In addition to the PLTB developed by PT Hywind, another project is the Bodo Hula Biomass Power Plant (PLTBm), West Sumba with a capacity of 1 MW, developed by PT Sumbar Dharma. At present, the Biomass Power Plant (PLTBm project has carried out a load test three times. In the 3rd time test, Biomass Power Plant (PLTBm )operates stably with a maximum load of 1011 kW.


In  operationalization,  Operational Cooperation Agreement has been signed between the Directorate General of EBTKE, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, PT PLN (Persero) and the Regional Government of West Sumba Regency on 18 April 2018.


The SII program is initiated since 2010 by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Ministry of PPN / Bappenas and Hivos. In 2015, Sumba Island was designated a Renewable Energy Iconic Island through the Decree of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Number 3051 K / 30 / MEM / 2015 dated June 1, 2015. The program aims to provide reliable energy access on Sumba Island through the development of renewable energy , which involves various stakeholders both at the central, regional and international levels, both government institutions, non-government and business entities.


Director of Various Renewable Energy , Harris explained that the electrification ratio of Sumba Island has increased from only 24.5% in 2010 to 50.9% in 2018. Currently the EBT Generator on Sumba Island has a total installed capacity of 9.3 MW. The total investment in the SII Program, both electricity and non-electricity, reached Rp. 722.4 billion.
