GARUT - The amount of geothermal potential in the unexplored territory of Indonesia, especially in West Java Province, is the focus of the Government to continue to encourage the development of geothermal energy as one of the potential renewable energy in Indonesia.

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources noted that West Java province is the largest province in generating geothermal energy, because it has an installed capacity of 1,164 MW and a planned development of 428 MW, as well as the potential of 587 MW which will contribute a large national energy supply.

However, the implementation is inseparable from the existence of resistance barriers such as the rejection of the surrounding community with the background of environmental issues. Therefore, it is necessary to approach and understand the community so that they are not easily influenced by using environmental issues by certain parties.

Expert Staff of the Minister of ESDM for Natural Resources Economics Dadan Kusdiana stressed the importance of energy for the economic development of a region. "The existence of energy is a major factor in driving the economy of an area for development, it is impossible for an area to be built without an energy first." The opportunity of Garut Regency which has the potential of geothermal energy that is still large, is a good opportunity for the future as a producing area. Because the greater the potential of the area to have geothermal energy, the greater the PNBP profit sharing funds and bonuses received.

This was expressed by Dadan in the Socialization of Achievement of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Performance with the theme of Geothermal and Environmental Conservation which was held in Kamojang Garut, Friday (2/11). The event was attended by Expert Staff of the Minister of ESDM in Natural Resources Economics Dadan Kusdiana, Geothermal Director Ida Nuryatin, Director of PJLHK Dody Wahyu Karyanto, Garut Regent Rudy Gunawan Director of Pertamina Geothermal Energy Ali Mudakir, Geothermal developers and Bandung and Tasikmalaya local government developers and Garut community leaders.

The blessing of income as a geothermal producing area that was received through direct transfers certainly made the Regional Government feel a great benefit in contributing to the regional budget. For this reason, the Regional Government will consciously guarantee the sustainability of geothermal exploitation to continue to produce.

As a concrete action, the support of the Garut Regent Rudy Gunawan guarantees that the existence of forest water remains. "The importance of the Regional Government, that Garut must provide water service still exists, by making the forest in that place, the Government will develop from young generation to become environmentalists by giving socialization to schools "he supports.

Speakers from the Ministry of Forestry and the Environment Director of PJLHK Dody Wahyu Karyanto also said that the dispute between the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and the Ministry of Environment and Forestry Ministry finally found a meeting point in the use of Conservation Forests where Geothermal is there. "That the existence of geothermal energy is not in the well but in the forest, the impacts that have been successfully mitigated in the construction of the Geothermal Geothermal Power Plant." That the preservation of forests must be maintained together because geothermal energy  need  forests to sustain the  production business.

The experience of geothermal energy in the world is long enough. For example, as stated by the Director of Pertamina Geothermal Energy Ali Mudakir in New Zealand is 60 years old, even in America and Italy, some are 100 years old. "These experiences show that geothermal is indeed feasible for us to develop and optimize in Indonesia," he concluded.

Closing the discussion, Geothermal Director Ida Nuryatin stated that the existence of geothermal energy should continue to exist and there would be no end because has nature  sustainably. The  evident that the existence of the Kamojang  Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP) as proof that geothermal energy is truly a manifestation of real sustainable energy where Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP)  Kamojang has been operating for about 35 years is still there for us.

In the future, the Government will continue to educate the public to find out the potential and benefits of geothermal in the region. The Secretary of the Director General of Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE) Wawan Supriyatna conveyed, all parties must conduct intensive discussions with the community and the environment around the geothermal development area, in order to minimize misunderstandings about the impact of geothermal exploration.
